Starting and building your own business is a minefield isn’t it? I remember back in 2008 when I was evaluating buying into the WIBN franchise – that then being my first entry into the world of entrepreneurship.
Buying a franchise is less of a risk to be honest (especially if it’s a good one), as there is a proven system and brand you are buying into. For me though, I still didn’t see it as a massive risk – as I was prepared to walk away from it if it didn’t work out. I didn’t even look at the revenue earning potential…bonkers you might say.
Fast forward to today (almost 11 years on) and revenue is still not the thing that drives me.
My driver: wealth of information
My main reason for buying into a franchise as my first entrepreneurship step was to tap into a huge wealth of information and knowledge.
Those having left a corporate job will know exactly what I mean when I say that I was quite naïve when it came to what was “out there” for small businesses. I was always a very boots-on-the-ground type of person whilst employed. I liked that busy working life I had – but owning a business is so far removed from that previous way of working and presents very different challenges.
Today I can totally appreciate the genuine wealth of information that surrounds me with the business professionals I get to connect with on a daily basis through my businesses.
What I did bring from my corporate world background was the skills I learnt in training and approach to business – which I try to deliver in both my WIBN and Your Business Matters brands. The only difference is that I get to focus on helping to deliver the best for businesses that turnover £25k, £50k or even £100k+ – instead of £50million brands!
The importance of having a wealth of information
You may be thinking: ‘what’s so important about having a wealth of information?’ Well, my view is what we can all learn from each other is quite frankly…priceless.
We, as business owners, all have such a huge wealth of experience and when we tap into it or share it unselfishly – that is where we and our businesses grow and succeed. What a gift we can give to each other!
I’ve found that my curiosity for learning about others and their businesses, has ensured that I grow as a person and I could more easily recognise the opportunities that were clearly there for other business owners.
One of my favourite pieces of feedback I have ever received was when someone said to me:
“Gosh you aren’t just a lady that organises meetings.”
Correct! In fact, I am a Business Connector and don’t just own and run networking groups – I work hard to understand every business and what they need. And then support them to get it!
That practical hands-on learning and active listening is what has unconsciously underlined everything I do. And…in effect is what emerged itself in a brand in itself that does that exactly that. Your Business Matters gives people a platform to truly learn from tried and trusted experts and other business owners.
Be curious and accelerate success
So, when you are out and about connecting, stay curious about each other. Don’t dismiss people because on the surface they have nothing to give you, when actually that is far from the truth.
Seek out and surround yourself with role models and truly skilled people and I promise you, you will see your business accelerate to success.
