The Business Room

What is the Business Room all about?

The Business Room is a membership-based networking group for business owners who want to grow through long-term, strategic relationships.

If you’ve tried networking before but found it cliquey and like you were being sold to at each meeting, the Business Room was built for you. It’s a warm, welcoming, structured and professional environment. You’ll be introduced to fellow members when you arrive, no-one tries to sell to the room and the connections you build have the potential to change the future of your business.

The Business Room is a lockout group, with one person per profession, so you can become known as the expert in your field. Whether you’re new to business or in a well-established company, you’ll find your place here.

You’ll feel welcome from your first visit

Visiting a new networking group can be daunting, especially if you’ve had a bad experience elsewhere which is why we do things differently at the Business Room. You won’t be left to fend for yourself as our team are ready to welcome you from the moment you arrive. You’ll be introduced to members so you can feel comfortable before the meeting gets underway. Our seating plans are carefully thought through so you’ll always be sitting next to people where there’s potential for future collaborations.

Structured yet relaxed networking

Every Business Room meeting follows a consistent, structured agenda so you’ll always know what to expect. After arrival and open networking, 60 second introductions give everyone an opportunity to tell the room about their business and share what they’re looking for. Each meeting has a section where members share knowledge, insights or lessons learned and there’s also a member presentation slot. The meeting closes with ‘Let’s Talk Business’, which is dedicated time to thank others for referrals or support and request 121s with other members and visitors.

No pressure, no targets, just genuine connections

Leave every meeting with something you can implement

The ‘Adding Value’ section is something our members really look forward to and it’s included in every Business Room meeting. A member takes the floor and shares something useful that members can implement in their own businesses. It could be skill sharing, operational processes, market updates or facilitating a group discussion about overcoming common business challenges. It’s knowledge you’d normally only access by paying for it, shared freely and generously by members.

A lockout group without the pressure

Some networking groups with a lockout policy mean added pressure with an expectation to bring referrals every week, whether they’re the right fit or not. The Business Room is a lockout group, meaning only one person per profession attends each meeting, but we do things differently from other lockout groups. Our focus is on building strategic and collaborative relationships, not on forced referrals or hitting targets. In our groups, referrals happen naturally and regularly because members take the time to understand each other’s businesses before making an introduction.

Prepare before you step into the room

Before every Business Room meeting, members complete and review a lead sheet which lists everyone attending and what they’re looking for in their business right now. This means members arrive at every meeting already thinking about who in their network could be a useful introduction, a potential collaborator or someone with the knowledge and experience to help a fellow member. That level of thought and preparation is what makes every Business Room meeting feel purposeful before it even starts.

Groups that make the right referrals

One of the things we’re most proud of at Your Business Matters is how much business our members generate from being part of their groups. It’s the result of the culture we’ve built where members invest time in each other and commit to showing up and building relationships over time. Members regularly tell us that some of their most valuable and long-standing client relationships trace directly back to someone they met in their Business Room group.

Our Business Room Meetings

YBM member Tim

I’ve been a member of The Business Room for over three years now. The meetings are well-organised and provide a great opportunity to connect with other business owners in the area. I’ve made some valuable connections through the room, and the exchange of ideas and knowledge is a great way to get help and advice from other members. I highly recommend The Business Room to anyone looking to grow their business and make valuable connections.

Networking Tip

Before you visit a Business Room event, look up members on LinkedIn and send a quick message to introduce yourself. Having already introduced yourself means you’ll have a familiar face or two to look out for when you arrive.
